Invisalign- Caring for your aligners

Sponsored treatment

Hey hey dblchinis!

I'm on my 12th (Versus 26) Aligner oredy, how fast is that?
And I can feel my teeth are getting straighter and straighter! AWESOME!

Oh well incase u missed the first 2 post,
check it out here(intro to Invisalign) and here(Invisalign attachments)

In this short entry I'm going to talk about Caring for your Aligners
This is very important, because most of the time you will b having them (the aligners) in your mouth.

So brushing them in uber important.

How often do I brush my Aligners?
I used to brush my teeth together and the aligners right after meal but I realized that actually brushing right after meals might cause erosion as the acid in your food will tend to soften the enamels of your teeth.
Thus, nowadays I will only Brush my Aligners after meals and instead of brushing my teeth I rinsed them and use a floss instead

Brush them again with my teeth an hour after meal when the acid has subside.

The only time I brush them together alongside with my teeth is in the morning when I wake up and during the night before I sleep.

Confusing much?

Ok I'm gonna guide you an idiot proof method, watch on.

Morning! dblchin wakes up.
Remove her aligners to brush the teeth and her aligners.
Put back aligners

later...

Remove Aligners
Grab Breakfast.
Rinse her teeth, floss
Brush aligners
Put back aligners

Afternoon,
Remove aligners
Have lunch,
Rinse teeth, floss
Brush aligners
Put back aligners

An hr later,
Remove aligners,
Brush teeth
Put back Aligners.

Repeat the same for evening and night.

U get that right?

Basically I try not to brush immediately right after meals.

Now for the brushing part,

Brush your aligners as though u r brushing your teeth, U need to reach to the inner corners to ensure there is no food harboring in the impressions of the aligners, food means bacteria.
U do not need special paste to clean your aligners, just use your regular toothpaste.

I did mentioned about changing a new aligner every 2 weeks ?

Well... Usually aligners clouds a little during the end of the 2nd week. This is inevitable.

Dun worry too much about it though,

Coz you will move on to a new one very soon.

C the difference? between the old and the new aligner?
Photobucket

Some do's and don'ts.
  • Don't attempt to brush your aligners too hard or bend them, it might break/crack. Yes I cracked 2 previously and had to move on to a new one before 2 weeks is even up.
  • Don't attempt to bite your teeth down without using the chewie, it may damage the aligners.

  • Do brush your aligners as frequent as possible a day, if not it might harbor bacteria and harm your nail enamel and gums.

  • always put your aligners in the case given to you (in your invisalign kit) if you just wrapped up in a napkin, u might slip your mind and throw it away in the rubbish bin. Yes, I did it once ! Luckily it was a home bin, but I have to dig and dug... And I had to brush my aligners like for 30 freaking mins before putting them back.

That's all or now, Hope that helps!

Please note that there is no right or wrong way in how you brush your teeth or aligners, you can do it sitting down or standing up, if you wan to lie and get choke brushing at the same time, that's fine b me,
I'm sharing the above purely base on my own experience.

Oh wow.. it looks really troublesome to have aligners. I've never had braces, aligners or anything like it. But I was also told by my dentist that it's really bad for your teeth to brush them right after eating or drinking food or drinks with acid (I drink a lot of pepsi) because the tooth paste will increase acid activity and ruin your enamels. Phuu~ Just brushing your teeth is complete science now, huh? XD haha

Many Zahnpasta items that do not use the key connected with whitening grab the dirt from the moment splits on the enameled in an attempt to indicate the genuine appeal of this enamel backside. i am a dentist and i don't think this is a good idea alone is too abrasive for teeth, combitanion with sea salt is worse. we don't advise our patients to use whitening Zahncreme which contains contents like baking powder. using them for too long cause enamel thinning and roughening so they cause more staining eventually.
